Prayer for my Baby

On Friday, July 1st we learned that Leo may be facing surgery. My world stopped turning for a bit. At his 6 month check-up Leo's pediatrician noticed a slight ridge on the top front of Leo's noggin. I had noticed this about 2 months ago, but not being in medicine, thought nothing of it. The pediatrician sent us for x-rays, but they were inconclusive other than to tell us the back of his head is just right. It was then decided that he should be sent for a cat scan...scary.

So, on Friday, July 1st we woke Leo up nice and early, played with him, gave him a bath, and basically just exhausted him as much as possible. We arrived at the radiology office and were quickly escorted to a nice quite room, where I was able to feed and rock my exhausted son. I got him good and asleep and walked him in and placed him on the cat scan bed. Scott and I watched anxiously as a man with a ponytail and large hands gently guided our son's precious, sleeping, body into place. Amazingly the scan itself was completed in about 20 seconds and we could take our boy home to snuggle, cuddle, and swim!

We were told not to expect results until after the 4th of July so we were quite surprised to get a call from Leo's pediatrician at about 1:30 that afternoon. She delivered the news that Leo has a condition called craniosynostosis. This has caused the two front plates of his skull to begin fusing prematurely. We were blessed in that his brain development has in no way been compromised and he is progressing beautifully!
After learning this news, sharing it with our family, and praying and crying a lot I quickly turned to what needs to be done and the appointments that need to be made. We have been quite lucky to be able to get Leo in to see (what we've heard is) an outstanding Pediatric Neurosurgeon at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. His appointment is on Tuesday, July 26th. At this appointment we are guessing we will learn whether or not he is going to require surgery or not. Of course we are praying to avoid surgery, but if necessary we wish to have a minimally invasive procedure that this doctor offers as opposed to a fully open procedure.

Leo's current medical situation alone can be considered quite daunting, however, when you add in a major move, two new jobs, and a change of insurance, we are hoping that Scott and I don't land ourselves in the funny farm! Luckily, we know that the Great Physician, will take care of our boy and will guide us through this challenging time in our lives. We covet your prayers and greatly appreciate all of the love and support we have been blessed with.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come to you broken and scared. You have blessed my life with a wonderful husband and a precious baby. You charged us with his care and the responsibility to raise him to be a Godly man. We love this boy more than ever thought possible and we am scared for him. He is facing a potentially great challenge in his little life. We pray, we beg of you to protect him, hold him safely in the palm of your almighty hand. Should he need surgery please be present in the room, please work through the skilled hands of Dr. Dauser. Should surgery be unnecessary, we pray that his development is uncompromised and that he grows to be a strong, caring, Christian boy and man. Lord, our trust is in you, our hope is in you, our life is in you. Father, please protect our son.
