A Prayer for My Hero

Dear Heavenly Father,

A hero is defined as a man distinguished by exceptional courage, nobility, and strength. I add to this definition unyielding faith.

By these standards I know a hero. He has taught me so much about life and love and faith. He has shown the strength of a dozen men. He has unrelenting stubbornness and a will to battle against a giant.

I know he is tired. He has been running a race, a marathon with every belabored breath. Yet his blue eyes have the sparkle of life, of hope, of love, and of faith.

He has demonstrated to so many a faith in you that easily rivals that of Moses, Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Isaac, and so many others that we have been taught through Your Word. He has taught me how to have a stronger faith. Through his faith many have come to renew their own.

Lord, through him Your Glory is being shown. He is not finished glorifying You. His story is being spread all over the world and many are learning the power of faith and prayer. Dear Lord, please let his story, his life continue. Please give him strength, ease of breath, energy, and productive coughs.

Along with teaching others about Your Amazing Graces, he still has so much left to do. He needs to teach his son to play basketball and softball. He needs to teach him how to be a faithful, loving man. He needs to intimidate his daughter's boyfriends and walk her down the aisle on her wedding day. He needs to grow old with his beautiful wife, teaching his children what a loving marriage is. He needs to bring laughter to our family gatherings.

Selfishly Lord, I want him at my wedding. I want him to hold my future children and his future grandchildren.

It is not that we merely want him here on this earth with us. It is that we NEED him on this earth with us. He is not finished yet. I beg again, ease his pain, help his breathing and coughing, give him strength and energy, give him good sleep. Take the cancer out of his body. Let him know that You are actively working in him to heal him.

Use his faith.

Amen.

As I told your Mom, I want "Big Teddy Bear Brad" back. He has so much more work to do here on earth. Our prayer is that God will heal him and that he can continue to witness to those around him about the goodness, graciousness and faithfulness of our Lord. Love you.

May you find comfort in this little poem.

The Little Ship

I stood watching as the little ship sailed out to sea. The setting sun tinted his white sails with a golden light, and as he disappeared from sight a voice at my side whispered, “He is gone."

But the sea was a narrow one. On the farther shore a little band of friends had gathered to watch and wait in happy expectation. Suddenly they caught sight of the tiny sail and, at the very moment when my companion had whispered, “He is gone” a glad shout went up in joyous welcome, “Here he comes!”

May God wrap you in His arms and comfort all of you.
